About Citing Sources

For each type of source in this guide, both the general form and a specific example will be provided.

The following format will be used:

In-Text Citation- entry that appears in the body of your paper.

Reference List- entry that appears at the end of your paper.

Information was drawn from Scientific style and format : the CSE manual for authors, editors, and publishers.

Lab Report or Handout

The general format and example below refers to a lab report or handout.

General Format

In-Text Citation:
(Author date)

Reference List:
Author AA. Year. Title of report or handout. Class and description. Place of publication (State or Prov): Publisher name.


In-Text Citation:
(Smith 2009)

Reference List:

Smith B. 2009. Retrieving data from the 2006 Census. SOCI 121 Laboratory Handout. Kamloops (BC): Librarians Department, Thompson Rivers University.
