About Citing Articles

When citing articles, take note of the author, article title, periodical title, volume and issue numbers, the date, and page numbers. 

Note that the citation format is slightly different if the article is in print or online, and if an electronic article has a DOI, or Digital Object Identifier.

For each type of source in this guide, both the general form and a specific example will be provided.

The following format will be used:

In-Text Citation- entry that appears in the body of your paper.

Reference List- entry that appears at the end of your paper.

Online Article with No DOI

The general format and example below refers to an online journal article with No DOI (digital object identifier).

Follow the journal title with the medium designator [Internet], the date you retrieved the article, and the URL where it is located.

For the titles of journals, abbreviate the significant words, and leave out other words such as articles, conjunctions, and prepositions. Leave out subtitles.

For Example:
The Journal of Biocommunication = J Biocommun.
JAMA: the Journal of the American Medical Association = JAMA
Virology = Virology
