On Display at TRU Library's Learning Commons

A book display in the TRU Learning Commons featuring 2SLGBTQIA+ books for Pride Month. The shelves are decorated with little cardboard standees of rainbow coloured books and Pride flags.

"Pride Month"

When you start seeing rainbows everywhere you go, you know it must be June! Although not formally declared as a celebrated month in Canada until 2016, Pride marches, demonstrations, parades and celebrations have been happening in Canada at various times of the year since 1971. For the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, Pride is about standing up for inclusivity and equal rights as a minority group and to celebrate sexuality, self-identity and self-expression. The rainbow has become an iconic symbol for Pride, as it is a spectrum of colours that represent diversity and unity.

To show your support and to educate yourself on 2SLGBTQIA+ histories and personal journeys, check out this collection of e-books we have selected for this month's book display.
