Indigenous Awareness Week at TRU

Thompson Rivers University (TRU) has designated March 3-7, 2025 as Indigenous Awareness Week. During this week, on the land of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc, TRU will host a variety of free events aimed at fostering understanding and appreciation of the cultures, histories, and stories of the local Secwépemc people and broader Indigenous communities. The TRU community is encouraged to participate in these events to explore Indigenous culture and learn about the histories and stories of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit in Canada.

To celebrate Indigenous Awareness Week, here are some e-books highlighting Indigenous topics in our community and Canada.

Thompson Rivers University campuses are on the traditional lands of the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc (Kamloops campus) and the T’exelc (Williams Lake campus) within Secwepemcúl’ecw, the traditional and unceded territory of the Secwépemc. Our region also extends into the territories of the St’át’imc, Nlaka’pamux, Nuxalk, Tŝilhqot'in, Dakelh, and Syilx peoples.
