Putting Ourselves on Display: Rethinking Promotional Initiatives for Greater Sustainability: Online Presence

The Display Team's journey as we expand beyond the "behind glass" library display.

Expanding Beyond the Physical Display

Our graphic novel display was the first time we attempted marketing a display online. A graphic was posted on the the Library's website and an event was held at the William's Lake campus where an email was posted on the staff email inviting staff and students to check out the display at the Library. The Display Team also wrote and submitted a post to be included in a library blog. We started incorporating QR Codes into our displays to lead back to the LibGuides that were created in response to our displays.

QR Codes

Members of the Display Team learned how to create QR Codes which direct back to library news items and LibGuides. We use a free software called QR Hacker because it allows us to customize our codes using colour and logos.

This is a simple QR code customized with TRU institutional colours.

LibGuides

Collaborating with a Librarian, outside of the display team members, first began with the creation of LibGuides to help promote the resources used in our displays. Librarians have created five LibGuides to date through collaboration with the Display Team. The graphic novel guide was the first to be created as a result of a library display.http://libguides.tru.ca/graphicnovels
