Putting Ourselves on Display: Rethinking Promotional Initiatives for Greater Sustainability: Collaboration

The Display Team's journey as we expand beyond the "behind glass" library display.

Beyond the Display Team

We began collaborating with the TRU community with a Freedom to Read initiative where we asked for people to share with us their favorite banned book. We posted an email to the TRU staff list and had a good response from the community. The Display Team took pictures of all the participants posing with their books to go with their write up of why it is their favorite banned book.

The Display Team started creating on demand table displays for faculty, departments and campus committees in the Fall of 2013. We were first approached by faculty when the English department wanted to have a reception to celebrate Alice Munro winning the Nobel Peace Prize. We were asked to create a table display to be a part of the event. We now create on demand table displays annually for International Women's Day and Black History Month.

The Display Team has worked with various departments to showcase major campus events and we have exchanged ideas with campus partners in order to showcase their research in print medium and lectures. Faculty has occassionally provided us with promotional materials to be included in the Library's social media and on demand displays. We have worked in collaboration with the TRU commuity to promote such campus events as the Philosophy, History and Political Science Conference, the TRU Director's Fesitval, and the Research Across the Displines Lecture Series to name a few.

We have also worked closely with Faculty who have requested for the Library to feature certain aspects of our collection. In the Winter of 2014 the Library worked closely with Science Faculty to promote a collection of donated books about birds a LibGuide was created to accompany this display and a faculty member did several bird observing tours around campus.
