General Guidelines

The following are general guidelines for formatting a paper in APA style:

• The entire paper should be double spaced, including the references.

• All four margins should be set to 1 inch (2.5cm).

• The font should be e 12 pt Times New Roman or Courier for work submitted in print. (Your instructor may allow you to use a sans-serif font, such as Ariel or Verdana, for text that will be read online.)

• There should be a title page.

• The title of the paper should be repeated at the top of the first page of the text.

• There should be a running head at the top of each page, including the title page.  This running head should consist of a short version of the title (50 characters or less) in capital letters on the left hand side of the page, and the page number on the right hand side of the page.

• The pages should be numbered with Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3…), beginning with the title page.

• The first line of each paragraph should be indented.
