Chapters in Edited Books

When a book has an editor instead of an author, the editor's name is followed by "Ed." in parentheses. For more than one editor, use "Eds."

Entire Edited Book:

In text:

Paraphrase: (Robinson, 1992) OR Quotation: (Robinson, 1992, p. 72)

Robinson, D.N. (Ed.). (1992). Social discourse and moral judgment. San Diego, CA: Academic Press.

Chapter in an Edited Book:

The editor's name is given in normal order and is followed by "Ed." in parentheses. If there is more than one editor, then “Eds.” is used.

In text:

Entire Anthology:

Whole edited anthologies should be cited like any other whole edited book would be cited. Only the editor appears in the author part of the reference.

In text:

(Gold, 1999)

Gold, M. (Ed.). (1999). A Kurt Lewin reader: The complete social scientist. Washington, DC: American Psychological Association.

Work in an Anthology:

A work in an anthology should be cited like a chapter in an edited book. Because the works in an anthology have been republished, both the publication date of the anthology and the publication date of the original work need to be included.

Lewin, K. (1999). Personal adjustment and group belongingness. In M. Gold (Ed.), A Kurt Lewin reader: The complete social scientist (pp. 327-332). Washington, DC: American Psychological Association. (Original work published 1941)
