BrowZine is a journal platform from Third Iron that makes it easier to browse, read, and monitor your favourite scholarly journals that TRU Library subscribes to. It is available to all TRU students, faculty, and staff. Authentication is required.

With BrowZine you can: 

  • Browse or search for journals of interest.
  • Find articles by DOI or PMID.
  • Easily scan tables of contents and read, save, share, and export articles.
  • Create a customizable personal bookshelf of favorite journals.
  • Receive emails when new articles are published in your favourite journals.
  • Access it on any device.

Get Started with BrowZine

On-Campus Access

  1. Navigate to the BrowZine site using your browser of choice.
  2. You will be taken to the main BrowZine Library landing page and should see "Access provided by Thompson Rivers University."
  3. Browse or search for journals you are interested in. Click on the article links to access the full text of the journal article.

Off-Campus Access

  1. Navigate to the BrowZine site using your browser of choice.
  2. You will be taken to the main BrowZine Library landing page. You will not see "Access provided by Thompson Rivers University."  This means you must log in with your TRU credentials to access the full text of articles you wish to see.
  3. Browse or search for journals you are interested in.
  4. Click on an article title link you want to read.
  5. You will be prompted to log in (authenticate) with your TRU credentials.

BrowZine is now part of TRU Library’s Discover Search. When you research and view scholarly articles, they open directly in BrowZine, offering the same features as the BrowZine website.

Access BrowZine via the Journals tab on TRU Library Discover Search. Enter a journal name (e.g., Lancet) to view it in BrowZine. This works only for subscribed scholarly journals; other magazines and newspapers won’t be viewed in BrowZine.

BrowZine Tips and Tricks

Create a BrowZine Account on the Website

Creating a BrowZine account allows you to access the rest of the features listed here. You can set up a bookshelf, sync your reading across different devices, receive alerts, set preferences, and more.

  1. Navigate to the BrowZine site using your browser of choice or access through TRU Library's Discover Search.
  2. (Only if off campus). Select your institution by typing in Thompson Rivers University. This will send you to the TRU login page. Enter your credentials.
  3. On the BrowZine login page, click "No account? Sign up for one." Use an email address of your choosing to create an account.
  4. Confirm your email address after signing up and start browsing!

Create a BrowZine Account (App)

  1. Download the BrowZine app from your device's app store.
  2. Launch the app and under "Choose a Library" enter Thompson Rivers University.
  3. Select Thompson Rivers University and then you will be prompted to enter your TRU credentials.
  4. After entering your TRU credentials you will be taken to a page where you will be asked to log in to your BrowZine account. Select Continue.
  5. On the BrowZine login page, click "No account? Sign up for one." Use an email address of your choosing to create an account.
  6. Confirm your email address after signing up and start browsing!

Saving Articles on the Website

  1. Navigate to the BrowZine site using your browser of choice or access through TRU Library's Discover Search.
  2. (Only if off campus). Select your institution by typing in Thompson Rivers university. This will send you to the TRU login page. Enter your credentials.
  3. Find an article you would like to save. Click on the folder icon below the article description.
  4. From here you can select where you would like the article to go. They are sorted into collections. You can also create a new collection by clicking on the "Create a new Collection" menu item.

Saving Articles (App)

  1. Launch the app and find an article you wish to save.
  2. Click on the export icon (or options icon for Android users) in the top right-hand corner of the page. This will cause a box with different sharing and saving options to pop up. Click on the folder icon titled "Save Article" ("Save to My Articles" for Android users).
  3. Find the collection you want to save the article to from the drop-down menu and click on it to finish the process. For Android users, this will cause a pop-up with your article collections to appear. Click the Save option.

Building Your Bookshelf (Website)

  1. Navigate to the BrowZine site using your browser of choice.
  2. Authenticate (if off campus) and sign in to your BrowZine account.
  3. Browse or search for journals you are interested in. Click on the journal and press the "add to my bookshelf" button below the journal title.
  4. The journal will be added to Bookcase 1 until it is filled. You can move journals between bookcase shelves and bookcases to your liking.

Building your Bookshelf (App)

  1. Launch the BrowZine app.
  2. Authenticate with your TRU credentials if you are off campus or not connected to the campus wi-fi.
  3. Browse or search for journals you are interested in.
  4. Click on the bookcase icon in the top right corner of the journal's table of contents.
  5. The journal cover will appear on your bookshelf's first available space. To move the journal to a different bookshelf or bookcase, simply drag and drop the journal icon to your desired location.

The BrowZine alert will be sent to the email address used to create the BrowZine account. Notifications can be configured to be received daily, weekly, or "off" to receive no email notifications under Settings. The default is weekly. If no new articles are added to followed journals within the selected time period, no email alert is sent. Learn more.
