Starting an Open Access Journal

TRU Library provides digital publishing services to the university commuity (staff, faculty, and students) through BCEN's Open Journal Systems platform.

Open Journal Systems is "an open source software application for managing and publishing scholarly journals." It allows journal managers to accept article submissions, peer review articles, and publish journal issues.

To get started, contact Erin May who will set up a consultation to understand your needs when setting up a new journal. Even if you are just thinking about starting a new Open Access journal, please contact me.

Setting up a Journal with OJS

This video series goes through each aspect of the journal's dasboard and how you can customize your journal as you are getting it set up. It is also useful if you have been running a journal for some time and need a refresher.

Using for Conferences?

Our previous journal publishing system was used for conference organization. While OJS does not have scheduling capabilities, the editorial workflow can be used for accepting and reviewing presentation proposals.
