Interlibrary Loans

Adding Requests from TRU Library Databases

Many of TRU Library's search tools allow you to place an Interlibrary Loan requests via Tipasa.

When searching the library's search tools like Discover or individual article databases (e.g., Academic Search Complete, PsycINFO, Web of Science, etc.), if a book or article is not held by TRU Library, you will see a link that says "Request via Interlibrary Loan." Click on that link, and the citation details will automatically be imported into the Tipasa form so that you can submit your request.

If prompted, login using your TRU network account information (the same that you use to access Moodle, Eduroam WiFI, or your TRU email).

On the request form:

  1. Fill in the information about your request (e.g., Need by date, delivery preferences).
  2. Enter/confirm all your "Contact Information" (e.g, T-ID, preferred names, patron type, and your phone number if you have enabled SMS/Text messaging)
  3. Double check that all the required fields (marked with *) have been filled out.
  4. Click "Submit Request."

Adding Requests via Blank Form

To place a request directly (i.e., not from Discover or a library database):

  1.  Login to your Tipasa account.
    • If prompted, login using your TRU network account information (the same that you use to access Moodle, Eduroam WiFI, or your TRU email).
  2. Click "Create Request"

     
  3. Use the Menu options to select the type of interlibrary loan you would like to request (i.e., copy of an article/book chapter; loan of a book; or other type of material).
  4. On the request form
    1. Fill in the information about the item and your request (e.g., Title, Author, and Need by date).
    2. Enter/confirm all your "Contact Information" (e.g, T-ID, preferred names, patron type, and your phone number if you have enabled SMS/Text messaging)
    3. Double check that all the required fields (marked with *) have been filled out.
    4. Click "Submit Request."

Requesting via WorldCat

You can find books from libraries around the world through WorldCat.

  1. Go to TRU Library's incidence of WorldCat 
  2. If prompted, login using your TRU network account information (the same that you use to access Moodle, Eduroam WiFI, or your TRU email).
  3. Search for either a specific title or a general search to find out what is available.
  4. When you find one that you are interested in, if the record says "at other libraries worldwide," click on the tile to view the record, and then click on "Request through Interlibrary Loan" button.
  5. On the request form
    1. Fill in the information about your request (e.g., Need by date, delivery preferences).
    2. Enter/confirm all your "Contact Information" (e.g, T-ID, preferred names, patron type, and your phone number if you have enabled SMS/Text messaging)
    3. Double check that all the required fields (marked with *) have been filled out.
    4. Click "Submit Request."

Receiving Your ILL Materials

Articles & Book Chapters

An email notification will be sent to your TRU email. You can also set up your communication preferences to be contacted by SMS/Text. You will provided with a direct link to access it. You can also logon to your ILL account to access it. Please note that the PDF file is only accessible for 14 days or 5 views; if you want to keep it, you must save it to your personal device.

Books and Other Physical Materials

Books and other physical materials (e.g., DVDs) will be routed to your preferred pickup location:

  • Kamloops campus students, staff, and faculty: Pick up your items in the lockers next to the House of Learning Library. You will get an email or text message notifying you that the ILL materials are ready to be picked up, followed by an email with the details about the locker number and opening code.
  • Williams Lake campus students, staff, and faculty: Your items will be sent to the address that you provide in your request form. The package will include a prepaid return label so that you can ship it back to the TRU Library in Kamloops at no cost to you. You can also drop it off at the Williams Lake Campus Library.
  • Open Learning students and faculty: Your items will be sent to the address that you provide in your request form. The package will include a prepaid return label so that you can ship it back to the TRU Library in Kamloops at no cost to you.

Renewing ILL Materials

To request a renewal, please email ill@tru.ca. You will be notified via email when your renewal has been approved or denied.

Not all libraries provide renewals.
