The Faculty Hub: Connecting Faculty with Library Expertise

The Library's Program Liaison Teams connect you with the TRU Library's services and resources to support your teaching and research needs. This guide provides a quick overview of how we can support you.

Collection Development

Just a reminder to contact the library if there are any books or audiovisual materials that you are interested in the library acquiring to support your teaching and research.

Interlibrary Loans

If you want a book, article, or video that the TRU library doesn’t have to support your research, request it through our interlibrary loan service (ILL). This service is free and unlimited for faculty (excluding textbooks).

Note: To request an ILL, use your T-ID number and your Library PIN. Your PIN is your 6-digit birthdate in the format YYMMDD.

Reciprocal Borrowing

You can borrow materials at other Canadian college and university libraries using a reciprocal borrowing COPPUL card.  You must obtain your free COPPUL card from the TRU Library before you try an borrow from another library.

Makerspace

The TRU Library Makerspace is a place for students, staff, and faculty to learn technology through hands-on learning, experimentation, and play in a safe, experiential, and supportive environment.

Pick Up Options

The Library’s physical collection is available to you/your students in two ways. You can come in person and finding items on the shelves yourselves, or you can request them through our touchless service options.  To request physical items from the library using the touchless service options, look up the item in the library’s Discover tool. A “Request this Item” link will appear on the item’s Discover record. There are three options:

  • Pickup at HOL: 24/7 Hold Locker outside of HOL (this excludes Reserve items – those need to be picked up in person on the third floor of House of Learning)
  • Scan & Email to Me: A chapter or section of a book will be scanned and emailed provided the request meets TRU Fair Dealing Policy.
  • Ship to Me: Provide a mailing address to have the item mailed to you.
    • Note: this option is only for OL students/faculty now

Study Spaces

The House of Learning Library has tables, group study rooms, carrels, pods, and computer labs. Students can book study rooms.

Laptop Loans

Laptops can be borrowed for the entire semester by students from the TRU Library. Seventy laptops are available on a first-come, first-served basis with no renewals (i.e., they can only be borrowed for one semester during the academic year). For the Fall 2024 term, laptops must be returned on or before December 14, 2024 or overdue fines will be incurred. Loss or damage to laptops may result in replacement fees. To borrow a laptop students can visit the Library Research Help Desk on the 3rd floor of the House of Learning. This service was very popular over the past year, and all the laptops were checked out in a couple of days, so please let your students know about this service right away.
