Staying Current

Creating alerts in databases will help you keep up to date with literature being published in a particular area without repeating your search every time.

Save searches by setting up a free personal account in a database, then saving your search. You will be able to run this search again later without having to re-formulate your strategy.

  • Tip: sort by "most recent" next time you run this search to find only the latest material!

Set up alerts that will automatically notify you when new material is published, either by e-mail or RSS feed. Depending on the database, different types of alerts are possible:

  • Search alerts automatically run a previous search and inform you if new titles have been discovered.
  • Table of Contents alerts notify you when a new issue of a particular journal is added.
  • Citation/author alerts tell you when a particular work has been cited by someone else.

Consult the "Current Awareness Alerts" guide to learn more.
