The TRU Library has a limited number of laptops that current TRU students may borrow on a first-come, first-served basis.
Students may borrow laptops for one semester per academic year, with no renewals.
Where can I get a laptop?
Laptops are available from the Research Help Desk on the 3rd floor of the House of Learning Library. Williams Lake campus students can borrow laptops from the Williams Lake Campus Library Desk.

What is required to borrow a laptop?
Students must present a current campus card.
What is the loan period for a laptop?
One semester per academic year, with no renewals. The library sends due date reminder notices to your myTRU student email address. Check it regularly! You can forward myTRU emails to your personal email account to ensure you don't miss any important TRU emails!
Can I take the laptop out of the library?
Yes.
What should I do if I have problems with the laptop?

Can I book the laptop for a future date?
No. Laptops are available on a first-come, first-served basis only.
Can I download software onto the laptop?
Yes. Please contact IT Services for assistance.
Are there any other restrictions on laptop usage?
Yes. Laptop usage is governed by the TRU Computer Usage Agreement. By using a computer account or computer system at TRU, you are agreeing to the terms of the following TRU Computer Account Agreement. Computer users at Thompson Rivers University must also abide by TRU's Board Policy BRD-16-0 - Responsible Use of Information Technology Facilities and Services.
What happens if I return the laptop late?
You will accrue a fine of $20 after 24 hours late, to a maximum of $100.
What if I damage the laptop or lose it?
You may be financially responsible for damaged or lost laptops. Please contact the library.
Is there technical support available for help with using the laptop and the software?
Yes. Please contact IT Services for assistance.
What software is available on the laptop?
Laptops are equipped with Windows 11 and the current version of Microsoft 365. For more information see the IT Services page Student Computer Labs and Software.
Yes. If you are connected to the wireless network, print jobs can be sent to the library's wireless printers. For instructions, see the IT Services page on Student Wireless Printing.
Can I connect to the campus wireless network and use the Internet with a laptop?
Yes. Campus-wide wireless internet access is available. You will be required to sign in using your TRU Network account. For more information, see the IT Services page Campus Wi-Fi. Use the "eduroam" network for seamless service.
What should I do if I want to save my work?
You can save your work to a USB memory device, by emailing it to yourself as an attachment, or to your personal OneDrive. For more information, please contact IT Services. Our laptops refresh themselves every three days. Work that is not saved properly is permanently lost.
