Borrow a Laptop FAQs

TRU Library has a limited number of laptops that may be borrowed by current TRU students on a first come, first served basis.

The loan period for laptops is one semester per academic year, with no renewals. 

 

Where can I get a laptop?

  • Laptops are available from the Research Help Desk on the 3rd floor of House of Learning Library.


Who can borrow a laptop?

  • Currently registered TRU students.


What is required to borrow a laptop?

  • Students must present a current Campus Card.


What is the loan period for a laptop?

  • One semester per academic year, with no renewals.


Can I take the laptop out of the library?

  • Yes


What should I do if I have problems with the laptop?

  • Please contact the Library Research Help Desk or IT Services for assistance.


Can I book the laptop for a future date?

  • No. Laptops are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Can I download software onto the laptop?


Are there any other restrictions on laptop usage?


What happens if I return the laptop late?

  • A fine of $20 after 24 hours late, to a maximum of $100.


What if I damage the laptop or lose it?

  • You may be financially responsible for damaged or lost laptops. Please contact the Library.


Is there technical support available for help with using the laptop and the software?


What software is available on the laptop?


Can I print from the laptop?

  • Yes. If you are connected to the wireless network, print jobs can be sent to the library's wireless printers. For instructions, see the IT Services page Student Wireless Printing.


Can I connect to the campus wireless network and use the Internet with a laptop?

  • Yes. Campus-wide wireless internet access is available. You will be required to sign in using your TRU Network account. For more information, see the IT Services page Campus Wi-Fi. Use "eduroam" network for seamless service.


What should I do if I want to save my work?

  • You can save your work to a USB memory device, by emailing it to yourself as an attachment, or to your personal drive on the TRU network. For more information, please contact IT Services. Our laptops refresh themselves every three days. Work that is not saved properly is permanently lost.
