Laptop FAQ

FAQ on laptop lending

The TRU House of Learning Library has laptops that may be borrowed by current TRU students and faculty.

These laptops may be borrowed from HL128 during the day, and HL300 after 5pm for a 3 day period (One in-person renewal if there are laptops available).

Who can borrow a laptop?

  • The TRU Library has a collection of laptops that can be borrowed by TRU faculty, students and staff. Community members and Alumni cannot borrow laptops.

What is required to borrow a laptop?

  • You must present a current TRU student or faculty/staff card and your borrower account must be in good standing.

What is the loan period for a laptop?

  • 3 days, with one renewal, see renewal question below.

Can I take the laptop out of the library?

  • Yes.

What should I do if I have problems with the laptop?

  • Please notify library staff at the information desk.

Can I book the laptop for a future date?

  • No. Laptops may not be booked in advance. They are available on a "first-come, first-served" basis.

Can I renew the laptop and use it for another 3 day period?

  • Yes, but only once in-person, no renewals over the phone or email.  If there are no laptops left in the library, exchanges are suspended and you will have to return the laptop and wait a half hour. If no one borrows the returned laptop, you can borrow it again.

Can I download software onto the laptop?

Is there technical support available for help with using the laptop and the software?

  • Students can request assistance with laptops from Lab Support IT Services, located in Old Main.

What software is available on the laptop?

  • The laptops are equipped with Windows and the current Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).

Can I print from the laptop?

Will the laptop’s battery be fully charged when the unit is loaned?

What should I do if I want to save my work?
