Place a hold on an item that is checkedout

When an item you need is out to someone else, you can place a HOLD on that item though the Library's catalogue.  HOLDS make sure that you are next in line for using that item.  

Note: Distance, Regional, and Open Learning students, staff, and faculty, please fill out the online form to request a hold on a checked out item.

How to place a HOLD on an item

  1. Search the catalogue and locate the item that you would like placed on hold.  If you are not already viewing the detailed information about the item, then press the DETAILS button located to the left of the title.
  2. Click the SEARCH SERVICES link located in the grey area at the top of the screen.
  3. Click on PLACE A HOLD on the next screen.
  4. On the next screen enter your network ID and password and click on PLACE HOLD.
Please note, you will be unable to put a hold on items if:
you have more than $10 in outstanding fines (accumulated or accrued)
the items are on Reserve
the items are currently not checked out
   

How to check on the status of your hold

If the library has your current email address, you will be sent an email the moment that the item is available to pick up. If the library does not have your email, you will have to check the library's system to see if your hold is available.

  1. From the TRU Library's homepage, click on the link "Check my library account".
  2. Enter your network ID and password and click on DISPLAY USER INFORMATION.
  3. Clicking on HOLDS will give you a list of items that you have placed on hold and indicate if they are unavailable or available for pickup.
NOTE: Available holds will only be held at the Circulation Desk for 3 days before they are made available to the next person in queue or returned to the general shelves. If you supply the library with your current email address, an email pickup notice will be sent to your email address.
