Chicago Manual of Style

This guide is intended to cover only the Notes and Bibliography system.

For each type of source in this guide, both the general form and a specific example will be provided.

The following format will be used:

• Full Note - use the first time that you cite a source.
• Subsequent Note - use after the first time you cite a source.
• Bibliography - use when you are compiling the Bibliography that appears at the end of your paper.

Information on citing and several of the examples were drawn from The Chicago Manual of Style (17th ed.). 

Section 14.207 instructs that citations should include as much of the following content as can be determined:

• the title or description of the page
• the title or description of the site as a whole
• author of the content (if any)
• owner or sponsor of the site
• publication, modification, or revision date. If not available, include an access date
• URL

Notes:

• Titled sections or pages of a website and individual blog posts are capitalized headline-style (i.e., Major Words Begin with Capital Letters) and placed in quotation marks (Sec. 14.206)
• The title of blogs are capitalized headline style and italicized. (Sec. 14.206)
• A citation to website content may often be limited to a mention in the text or notes and may not require a bibliography entry (Sec. 14.207). Use your discretion to determine whether a bibliography entry is needed.
